This week we said goodbye to our sweet Guinness. Some knew he had been battling chronic kidney disease for the past 3 months. This week essentially everything else went wrong too and it was his time. We are grateful for our wonderful and caring veterinarian and veterinary staff who made it possible to say goodbye at home. Guinness (Bit Bit) LumBeloved Cat Son, King of the Household, Original Cat, Best Feline Friend.3/17/2011 – 1/18/2023Guinness was adopted from Brevard County Animal Services 11 years ago. We went “just to look” and here was a tiny kitten, sneezing, and climbing the cage door screaming at us. We got him out and he latched onto Dennis and refused to let go. We were done “looking” then! His first picture is attached, he was 1.5 lbs but absolutely ready to kick ass and take names! And that he did. He was in charge of all in the household, ensuring all cats, dogs, foster kittens, and visitors of any species were acting in a manner he found to be acceptable. He was also a lap kitty, regularly keeping me sitting on the couch longer than intended for purrs and snuggles. The snooze button was hit many mornings when he didn’t feel like getting up. He was the first to greet me at the door after work. He was always nearby, ready to assist with or sometimes prevent whatever task you were trying to complete. He loved to sit on the patio and watch the birds. He was a superb lizard hunter, I don’t know why they never learned! He had been known to steal loose change. He could open doors with minimal effort and was not afraid to disturb guests in the bathroom. He was absolutely the most handsome cat with perfect stripes and bold whiskers and beautiful eyes, everything about him was just gorgeous! He was my best friend. I’ve been told he was “one of the lucky ones”, getting out of the shelter. But we were the lucky ones. He changed my life. He made me a cat lady. We call him “The OC”, because he’s our Original Cat. He made me want more which is how we ended up fostering kittens. We’ve fostered well over 100 cats and kittens in his honor and will continue in his memory. He’s been such a force in our lives, it was his world and we were just living in it. But what a wonderful world it was!I’ve met a lot of cats, but I’ve never met another cat quite like him. Until we meet again my sweet baby Bit Bit, I love you, and I miss you. Borrowing from Taylor Swift: Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye, you were bigger than the whole sky.
